RPS@PAX 2022: McPixel 3 is back and just as daft as ever

“We don’t talk about McPixel 2,” says dev Honestly, I would only do a disservice to the game if I tried writing out all the different solutions to McPixel’s nutty adventures, so why not have a watch of our playthrough above and see for yourself? There’s a Tom And Jerry cheese gag, a literal red herring at one point, plus a snowboarding yeti that chases you down a mountain. I mean, what more could you possibly want?...

RPS@PAX 2022: Saturday daily round-up

Indie games galore, and hanging out with Skyrim Grandma Alas, we were hoping to bring you a dedicated PAX Rising Showcase round-up video today, but we only managed to make it half way round this morning, as there were just oodles of people on the show floor today. Saturday tickets were completley sold out this year, so we’re going to have to head back tomorrow to finish things off. Still, we talk about plenty of highlights in today’s round-up, including my personal highlightThe Wreck(the next game from the makers of Bury Me, My Love), as well as Metroid-likeRusted Moss, musical deckbuilder Power Chords, and cyberpunk heist RPG Cyber Knights: Flash Point, which is developed by theStar Traders: Frontiersdevs....

RPS@PAX 2022: Sunday daily round-up

Our final report from the show floor We started the day by getting back out to the PAX Rising Showcase. We only managed to play around half of the ten curated games there yesterday due to the massive crowds, but today was a lot quieter, making it easier to jump on those last remaining demos. We’ll be putting together a full PAX Rising run-down in the coming days, but here we talk about a couple more of our top highlights....

RPS@PAX 2022: The evolution of PC hardware modding

We chat with panel moderator Isaïe “Trouffman” Simonnet about the past, present and future of the hardware modding community PC hardare modding is never something I had the guts to try during my time in the RPS hardware mines, but after attending The Evolution Of PC Modding panel atPAX Eastthis week, I wish I’d been a little bolder. Moderated by Overclocking-TV.com’s Isaïe “Trouffman” Simonnet with special guests Joe Gialanella from ModMyMods, Eric “hobbseltoff” Hobbs from PC Modding Enthusiast, and Justin “Robeytech” Robey, these four experts took us through the history of PC modding over the last 15 years, the highs and lows of some of their very own builds, and what lies in store for PC modding going forward....

RPS@PAX 2022: We tour Larian's Baldur's Gate 3 booth, and chat about its 2023 release date

Our minds are flayed at the majesty of this walled city It’s difficult to appreciate the scale of the Larian booth from down on the ground, but as you may have seen from ourdaily round-up video yesterday, we got the chance to go up to the convention centre catwalk in the afternoon and view the entire floor from the rafters. From above - as you can see in the header image up the top there - Larian’s stand is really quite impressive, housing rows of PCs inside the city while other attendees queued up outside....

Amy Hennig is making a new Star Wars game again

Never count a ragtag team out The announcementdoesn’t have any more details about the project than that. Skydance New Media was co-founded by Hennig, however, with the aim of making “inviting and accessible” interactive adventures that could live on “traditional gaming platforms as well as emerging streaming services.” I’m going to wildly speculate that this will look like Uncharted but with skippable combat bits - which sounds ideal, really. Only a little is known about the Star Wars project Hennig was working on at EA....

Darwinia's 10,000th anniversary edition remasters the classic indie RTS

The only good metaverse Darwiniais a fabulous, offbeat strategy game set inside a virtual world overrun by a virus. It’s an early indie classic. It’s possibly Introversion’s best game - though, god, that’s a close call. It’s also now fully remastered. Darwinia’s 10,000th anniversary edition launched this week, with a newly re-written graphics engine, support for surround sound, cloud saves, Steam Deck, and various bug fixes. Lovely stuff. You can find the full list ofnew additions in the Steam post....

Potionomics is the latest witchy shop sim to catch our eye

Mix, haggle, sell Potionomicsseems to contain several things I’d like from a video game. It’s got brewing potions, yes, that’s good. There’s shopkeeping, I like that a lot. Then there’s a card-driven social system for haggling with customers - perfect. Recettear meetsPotion CraftmeetsSigns Of The Sojourner? With beautiful character animation? Gold. Watch its new trailer below. It’s the haggling system that most interests me. It looks like you’ll collect cards from the adventurers you befriend around town, with each character having a deck of cards you can choose from....

RPS@PAX 2022: All the news from Gearbox's big PAX panel in 5 minutes

Save yourself the torment of an 80 minute stream In truth, there weresomeannouncements. As you may have seen earlier today, CJ coveredthe return of Tales Of The Borderlands, which we also talk about in the video below. But there were two more games announced at PAX East from Gearbox’s publishing arm that caught our attention as well: Eyes In The Dark, a monochrome roguelite platforming game, and Relic Hunters Legends, a cartoonish, top-down, multiplayer looter shooter that sounds suspiciously like another of Gearbox’s famous games....

RPS@PAX 2022: Cursed To Golf dev tells us exactly what's up with all the wacky golf games recently

Birdie’s eye view Apologies in advance for the slightly roaring intro - the show floor was particularly loud when we were recording - so fair warning: you may want to adjust the volume on your speakers / headphones before you hit play below. The PAX East demo for Cursed To Golf saw us play through the game’s opening tutorial level, where we got to grips with the three main clubs: the big honking driver, the steady iron, and height-giving wedge....

RPS@PAX 2022: Friday daily round-up

Games! Interviews! And a Wordle Royale? I think I speak for both myself and Liam that our collective highlight of the day was visiting the Pinny Arcade trading meet-up, where pin collectors old and new gather together to display, trade and bolster their beloved pin libraries. No money changes hands. Just pins for pins, pure and simple. We had a lovely time chatting with members of the community, so watch out for that video very soon....

Sentry is a co-op shooter about laying traps to defend your spaceship

From the makers of Abandon Ship Tower defense games aren’t my thing, but the exceptions are those that embody you in a particular character on the battlefield, Orcs Must Die-style. That’s what first-person shooterSentrydoes. Sentry is an “action-defense” shooter in which you’re protecting a spaceship from waves of aliens, alone or in co-op, by placing traps and blasting heads. You’ll find the trailer below. That’s a well put together trailer, isn’t it?...

Baldur’s Gate 3 will launch out of early access in 2023

The mindflayers got Swen Vincke though Larian’s CEO Swen Vincke didn’t make his usual armoured appearance for the announcement, unless you count his legs poking out from behind a desk. Get well soon, Swen. Larian have styled the release date announcement as a look back at Baldur’s Gate 3’s “journey so far” while it’s been in early access. It’s a bit daft, but neatly summarises how the game has evolved over the past two years....
