The best Steam Deck microSD card, Samsung’s Pro Plus, is nearly half price for Prime Big Deal Days

512GB of top-notch handheld storage I’m acutely aware someone on RPS, usually me, ends up dealsposting about the Samsung Pro Plus every time there’s a big hardware sale going on. As there currently is, withAmazon’s Prime Big Deal Dayshaving returned to town. But don’t let my complete lack of original thinking overshadow two simple facts: one, this is still thebest microSD card for the Steam Deck, and two, the 512GB model very nearly half price on both sides of the Atlantic....

Thunderful are having a Steam sale on Viewfinder, Somerville, SteamWorld Heist 2 and other colourful hits

Going down a storm Swedish video game publishers Thunderful are selling some steam, which is terrific news for those of us who don’t live near saunas and are thus cruelly deprived of their widely-accepted health and wellness benefits, which date all the way back to the ancient Mayans. Oh wait, I read the press release wrong. Thunderful are actually havinga Steamsale, with up to 90% off such well-regarded games asLaika: Aged Through Blood,Swordship, Viewfinder and, just to confuse me further, several SteamWorld games....

Traveller's Hymn is a free open-world grid-based RPG, and it's out today

Looks lovely Traveller’s Hymnis a top-down, grid-based, open-world adventure game (and breathe), set in a dark fantasy land. The tileset is lovely, as are the little dialogue boxes and menus and the gentle bob of your backpack-ridden character as they walk. Basically, it looks like it’s worth everyone’s time, particularly because there’s one big twist here - it’s entirely free. Developers Aquatic Ranger Studio were asked over onXwitterwhy the game was free, considering people likely would’ve paid good money for something that looks so breezy....

With 31% off, Prime Big Deal Days makes AMD’s best-value gaming CPU even better

It’s a bit unconventional, but the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is a bargain at £161 If you’re not militant about meeting all the latest hardware standards, but do need an upgrade in the CPU department, the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D is close to perfect. Despite releasing this year, it’s designed to fit the last-gen AM4 motherboard socket – which sounds strange, because it is, but then the 5700X3D is also the cheapest Ryzen chip to feature AMD’s extremely game-friendly 3D V-Cache tech....

Dread Dawn review: dawn’t bother

Is this the end of zombie Shakespeare?! There’s a genre of lesser fun that only makes itself known to me once I’ve completely given up on enjoying a game in any traditional sense, lurking under the surface like a silly icon on a losing scratchcard. I’ll call it ‘system tourism’ in lieu of something better. It’s not like the actually fulfilling virtual tourism you might do in something likeYakuza’s Kamurocho, where you’re scarfing down deep fried whiskeys, entranced by the lights....

Epic detail plans for Unreal Engine 6 and share vision of a metaverse spanning "Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite"

“Let the best ecosystem win” Epic Gameslaid off over 800 people a year ago, following what CEO Tim Sweeney confessed was an “unrealistic” period of investment designed to “grow Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators”. Now, it’s time to start talking about brighter, metaversal tomorrows and hopefully, not do the whole thing all over again. Epic have detailed early plans for Unreal Engine 6, which Sweeney says will combine Unreal Engine with Fortnite’s easy-to-use Unreal Editor to create a gigantic, “interoperable” metaverse platform that lets developers sell stuff that can seamlessly be transferred to other games, whether they run on Unreal Engine or not....

Halo's future as an Unreal Engine game looks both handsome and boring, going by these "Project Foundry" videos

343 retitle themselves Halo Studios in bid to upset and confuse me specifically Halo creators 343 Industries are having a bit of a glow-up. They’re now calling themselves Halo Studios, a piece of rhetorical doubling-down that reminds me of thosedril tweetsabout “James Bond, author of James Bond”. They’ve also abandoned the proprietary Slipspace game engine used byHalo Infinitein favour of Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, which will be the basis for “multiple new games”....

I really hope turn-based horror RPG Lurks Within Walls gets combat worthy of its lovely claustrophobia

Try the demo, beware the ball My default movement mode inhorrorgames that actually scare me is: meandering. I seek to approach without approaching, scooting back and forth across the path like a stray hamster, worrying at the corners and avoiding clear perspectives of the route ahead, while keeping the route behind me in my peripheral vision. I have been trained to do this especially by Amnesia, where tilting your gaze too decisively at anything nasty drives your character nuts....
