Turok 3 remaster will complete the return of the dinosaur-blasting FPS trilogy later this year

Shadow of Oblivion will make its way to PC for the first time this autumn. The third Turok game will join its predecessors in escaping the Nintendo 64 (and a weird Game Boy Color spin-off) for the first time as a 4K remaster of 2000’s Shadow of Oblivion heads to PC later this year. Like those games, and Nightdive’srecently announced remaster of Star Wars FPS Dark Forces, its Turok 3 remaster will make use of the studio’s KEX engine, and bump up the N64 game to a 4K resolution running at 120 frames per second....

Ara: History Untold hopes to get out in front of Civilization 7 with its 2024 release window

It’s also coming to Game Pass day one Ara: Story Untold was originally announced at last year’s notE3Xbox Games Showcase, but the game has been missing in action since then. Until now, that is. During tonight’s Gamescom announceathon show, Microsoft released the first in-game trailer for Oxide Games' turn-based grandstrategy game, which spans, checks notes, ah yes, the whole of human history. Here it is: That small clip was certainly giving me very big Civilization vibes, mainly because you need to build up your own, ahem, civilisation, starting from humble tribes and evolving into societies that have the potential to do terrible, terrible things like initiate wars, colonise peaceful lands and create unwalkable cities....

Colossal bosses take centre stage in looter shooter The First Descendant

The Gamescom trailer expands the world slightly Interdimensional aliens have invaded with murderous intent. Humans are an endangered species. Our world is in ruins. That’s the setup inThe First Descendant’snewest trailer, and yet, all I want to do is zip around with grappling hooks while wearing the most fashionable cyber-bunny exosuit available. Thankfully the Gamescom trailer has that on display, too. Ta! For a quick refresher, The First Descendant is developer/publisher Nexon’s forthcoming live-service looter shooter that has bigWarframevibes....

Crimson Desert in action looks like a sort of janky Assassin's Creedlike where you explode stuff a lot

Look at him leaping everywhere on his horse Firstannounced three years ago, medieval-ish low fantasy-ish action adventureCrimson Desertmade an appearance at Opening Night Live forGamescomtonight, and boy do you have a horse in it. Also you can explode things with what looks like comical ease. Crimson Desert’s older sibling isBlack Desert Online, that MMO that has a really pretty character creator, and the big daddy dev Pearl Abyss say that Crimson Desert is still a work in progress but, hooooo, they’re showing off that horse, alright....

Cult Of The Lamb and Don't Starve Together cross over to celebrate each other's birthdays

Mouthwatering Videogame collaborations seem to be getting increasingly common and increasingly random. Nicki Minaj in Call Of Duty? Fortnite skins based on Mexican comedy shows from the 1970s?Pentiment characters in mediaeval strategy Inkulinati?Okay, that last one makes sense. But now, a team-up between management gameCult Of The Lamband co-op survival gemDon’t Starve Togetherhas joined the small club of fun but sensible crossovers. Games about cults and starving stick together, you know, so both games are celebrating each other’s birthdays with free updates....

It continues the story of V and her sidekick, imaginary sweary Keanu Reeves, but it also overhauls skills, perks, car chases, police and more. Diablo 4 season 2 will let you farm for specific Unique and Uber Unique items

Also, gems will no longer flood your inventory! Blizzard tonight announced thatDiablo 4’s second season, named Season Of Blood, will begin on the 17th of October. Given that the first season is uninteresting, I’m not super fussed about that. What does sound good is quality-of-life changes coming alongside the new season. For starters, your inventory will no longer become clogged with six billion gems. Season Of Blood will also let you pick specific Unique and Uber Unique items to farm bosses for, which is most welcome given how vital Uniques can be for builds....

Dustborn is the latest addition to the nascent misfits-on-a-road-trip genre

It’s published by Quantic Dream, though The misfits-on-a-road-trip genre arguably began bloody ages ago, it’s true, but I think it’s really been building momentum over the last few years with stuff likeSigns Of The Sojourner,Hitchhiker, and evenRoad 96. Red Thread Games, who madeDraugen(ahorrorgame I liked quite a bit), are adding to the list withDustborn, a single-player action-adventure with a heavy lean towards story, which was revealed at this year’sGamescomOpening Night Live....

Fantasy auto-battler Tales & Tactics is more complicated than it needs to be, but still a reasonably fun time

A fantasy roguelike in auto-battling chainmail As someone whose auto-battler experience has, up until now, only been limited to minor forays into the excellentAlice0-recommended Super Auto Pets, sitting down to play a run ofTales & Tacticswas somewhat overwhelming. Recently launched into early access and made by the same team behind Slay The Spire’s popular Downfall mod, this is a fantasy autobattler cloaked in the skin of a roguelike. That means that in addition to creating an army of tabletop-esque miniatures to do your automatic bidding on a grid-based board, you’ll also be picking from randomly generated opponents on a lightly branching story map as you sword chop your way to your ultimate goal: The Grand Tournament....

Fort Solis review: a handsome haunted spacehouse with a deflating shortage of spectres

Better red than dread Glance at aFort Solisscreenshot and you might summarise it as “Dead Spaceif it were set in a moodier corner of Ridley Scott flick The Martian”. The correct bundle of analogies is actually “Tacomaif it was made by Supermassive Games or Quantic Dream - and also, if it were set in a moodier corner of Ridley Scott flick The Martian”. If you’re unfamiliar with all of those things, here’s the translation: this is a creepy but seldom scary mystery-horror game about a couple of engineers exploring an abandoned spacebase full of quick-time events (aka, “push the button before the prompt vanishes”) and audio/video diaries from the Project X Proceeds Apace School ofOminous Backstory....
