Frame-rate and resolution discourse is "getting a bit out of hand", says Alan Wake 2 dev

“People look at the numbers and say, oh that’s bad.” In the nicest possible way, and with the greatest of respect, Remedy’s comms director Thomas Puha would like people to stop fixating on frame-rate and resolution and get on with their bloody lives. Or at least, that’s my summary of his thoughts following the recent announcement on Xitter thatAlan Wake 2will have aperformance modeon PS5 and Xbox Series X, allowing consoleers for whom responsiveness is a priority to eke a higher frame-rate out of a game “built from the beginning as a 30fps experience focusing on visuals and ambiance....

Gentle sim game Shroomchitect is a little bit The Sims, a little bit lofi beats and a whole lotta mushrooms

Kick back and relax with some fungi Some games just give you that lovely warm feeling inside when you see them for the first time. For me, that wasShroomchitect, a very gentlesim gamewhere you care for a bunch of sentient mushrooms. Mmmmm. Shroomchitect’s sim-ness comes through as a very, very light take on the likes of the micromanagement inThe Simsor evenDwarf Fortress. Here, your mushrooms have just four status bars you’ll need to keep balanced: Hunger, Energy, Social and Purpose, which presumably triggers an existential crisis upon hitting zero....

If Anthem is the "anti-BioWare game", then James Ohlen is correcting the balance

The hugely influential design director talks Baldur’s Gate, his next RPG, and the abandonment of the BioWare model. “Baldur’s Gate IIset the model, and I obviously loved that model,” says James Ohlen. “But there were a ton of people at BioWare who didn’t like it.” During leadership meetings over the course of the Canadian designer’s 22 years at theRPGstudio, he’d sometimes feel totally outnumbered when talking about the importance of story....

There are far more than Todd Howard said, too Starfieldhas only been out a month, and someone has already been to every planet in its universe. That person is Reddit user DoomZero, who revealed their achievement by posting a screenshot of Starfield’s menu showing 1,694 planets fully surveyed, with 1,695 scanned - some planets were apparently impossible to survey due to bugs....
