How to respec in Elden Ring

To unlock the ability to respec in Elden Ring, you need to venture to the Academy of Raya Lucaria anddefeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. You should naturally encounter this boss during your adventure, as Rennala is the second major boss in ourElden Ring walkthroughand holds one ofElden Ring’s Great Runes.

To enter the Academy, you’ll need to defeatGodrick the GraftedinCastle Stormveiland enterLiurnia, Elden Ring’s second region. Then, find theAcademy Glintstone Keysso that you can get into the Academy, where you’ll encounter Rennala.

After defeating Rennala, you can speak with her as an NPC. Chat with Rennala until she brings up a menu, which allows you to select the respec option. This lets you redistribute your stats in exchange for one Larval Tear. It’s worth noting that you can’t take any of your stats below what you got from yourstarting class, so if you chose Astrologer, you’ll have a minimum intelligence of 16, for example.

Getting your hands on a Larval Tear in order to respec is not an easy task. Larval Tears are rare items, and often well-guarded by enemies. Below are the locations of all the Larval tears we’ve found so far:

East of theSouth Agheel Lake Site of Grace, you’ll find a standard zombie enemy on a low cliff edge. Kill this enemy to reveal its true form - a large bear. Kill the bear to get a Larval Tear.

You can find theVillage of the Albinauricsin the southwest of Liurnia of the Lakes, through the poisonous ravine. From the Site of Grace, head northeast until you come to some graves. You’ll find a Larval Tear on the ground by these coffins.

South of theFallen Ruins of the Lake Site of Grace, you’ll find a Giant Crayfish enemy. While this may seem like a standard enemy of the region, the Crayfish marked on the map above hides a secret. When you defeat this Crayfish, it will transform into a Grafted Scion miniboss. Defeat this enemy to gain a Larval Tear.

After defeating Royal Knight Loretta, head through the gate into a new area just behindCaria Manor. Follow the cliff edge southwest back towards theManor Lower Level Site of Graceand hop down onto the nearby rooftops. Use the wooden rafters at the edge to continue dropping down until you find some ladders that lead back inside. You’ll meetPidia, Carian Servant, here. They sell one Larval Tear for 3000 Runes.

Go back to the gate just after Royal Knight Loretta and instead follow the path East until you find theBehind Caria Manor Site of Grace. From there, head South towards the location marked above to find a ghost sat in a chair. Interact with this spirit to get a Larval Tear.

South of theCaelid Highway South Site of Grace, you’ll find some regular zombie enemies by some graves. One of these enemies will transform into a troll upon death. Defeat the troll to get a Larval Tear.

Northeast of theRampartside Path Site of Gracein theAltus Plateau, you can find some ruined buildings. Within, you’ll find a regular low-level enemy cowering in the corner. Kill this enemy to reveal their true form, which is a much tougher miniboss. Defeat this enemy to get a Larval Tear.

In the Mistwoods to the East of Limgrave, you can find a lift that takes you underground into an area namedSiofra River. Activate the Site of Grace by the lift when you reach the bottom and then follow the path southwest into theWorshipper’s Woods. Climb the structure in the centre and traverse the scaffolding to find a cave. As you navigate this cave, you’ll find theAbandoned Merchant. They sell one Larval Tear for 3000 Runes.

As you exploreNokron, Eternal City, you will find theMimic Tearboss (the boss version of mybeloved Mimic Tear Ash that was nerfed shortly after launch). Defeat the Mimic Tear boss to get a Larval Tear as your reward.

To get into theConsecrated Snowfields, you need to use theHaligtree Medallionat theGrand Lift of Rold. We detail how to do that in our guide onhow to find Malenia, Blade of Miquella. After getting into the Consecrated Snowfields, make your way outside and head North until you find theInner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace.

Rest here and then head southeast until you find a group of three zombies in the snow, one of which is half-buried. Kill this enemy to reveal its true form, a much more powerful bear miniboss. Defeat this enemy to get a Larval Tear.
