My favourite ultrawide, the 34-in Alienware AW3423DW QD-OLED, is £156 off at Dell UK

The QD-OLED marvel sees its first major discount for Black Friday. Dell’s Alienware AW3423DW is my favourite ultrawide monitor, thanks to its beautiful 34-inch QD-OLED screen that offers perfect blacks, near-instant pixel response times and gorgeous colours. With wide-screen 1440p (3440x1440) resolution and a 175Hz refresh rate, it’s both detailed and responsive, and it looks the part too with a very cool space-y design. Dell (and its Alienware subsidiary) make a ton of great monitors, but the difference here is that this is one of just a handful to use a Quantum Dot OLED display from Samsung....

No more Project Cars games, says EA

Staff will move to other projects where possible “Today we announced internally an update to our racing portfolio. Following an evaluation of the nextProject CARStitle and its longer-term growth potential, we have made the decision to stop further development and investment for the franchise,” EA said in astatement given to GamesIndustry.biz today. “Decisions like these are very hard, but allow us to prioritise our focus in areas where we believe we have the strongest opportunity to create experiences that fans will love....

The Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time remake isn't cancelled, but pre-orders have been refunded

It currently has no attached release date. Here’s the original announcement trailer: “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake isnot cancelled,” says theFAQ page, emphasis theirs. “The game is currently in development at Ubisoft Montréal.” The page also clarifies that they have no plans to remake any other games in the Prince Of Persia series, which is surely a disappointment to some edgy Warrior Within fans. Plus, since Sands Of Time currently has no release date, pre-orders “have been cancelled and refunded where applicable,” Ubisoft says....

This 280Hz Acer Nitro monitor is down to £180 at Laptops Direct in the UK

A phenomenal value for competitive FPS players. If your favourite PC games are competitive shooters, then a high refresh rate monitor is an essential upgrade in my eyes - the reduced input lag and improved visual clarity makes a huge difference in games like Counter-Strike,Valorant, Fortnite and Call of Duty. 144Hz and 165Hz monitors used to be the norm, but now even faster monitors are becoming quite affordable - including this 280Hz Acer monitor that’s dropped to £180 at Laptops Direct, down from an original price of £275....

Wordle’s getting a boss

Sort of World-straddling behemoth of a guessing gameWordlehas welcomed its own overlord this week in the form of an editor. The New York Times haveannouncedthat Tracy Bennett is now in charge of curating the word list for the puzzle game, which was acquired by the newspaper back in January. Wordle will be programmed and tested just like the NYT’s Spelling Bee and Crossword. Up to this week, Wordle had been using an answer list generated by its creator, Josh Wardle....

Battlefield 1 is in Steam's top ten bestsellers six years after release

There’s a war going on between instalments in the Battlefield series, and it looks likeBattlefield 1is coming out on top for now. The World War One FPS has been spotted nestled in Steam’s top ten best-selling games rankings (thanks,Emopulse), although it’s since slipped out again. Battlefield 1’s also set a record over the weekend for its all-time highest concurrent player numbers, reaching more than50,000 playersin the past 24 hours. I say, tip top....

Beef up an old laptop with this 480GB SSD for less than £25

A deeply discounted Integral SSD and a 10% off Ebay code combine to great effect. Ebay’sTAKEIT10code offers a 10% discount on awide range of PC components and peripherals, but I was tickled by this deal on an Integral 480GB SSD, which brings this sizeable drive down to just £24. That’s a solid £5 below the price of the same drive on Amazon, and well into bargain buy territory for anyone that wants to cheaply and easily add more storage to their desktop or laptop....

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (multiplayer) review: slick shooting that rarely misfires

Let’s talk about those revamped weapon unlocks, though Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer - not including Warzone 2.0 - brings out the best of COD’s excellent gunplay on an array of colourful maps that largely deliver. And it tones down the pace of movement too, making for a measured experience that certainly rewards speed, but doesn’t make it an athletics competition. And while the game’s multiplayer is a slick refinement of what’s come before, its gun unlock process is messy and excessive, even if it offers plenty of options for all types of player....

Diablo 4 claimed to be launching in April 2023

An announcement may be coming at The Game Awards next month The last Diablo to release was the ported mobile gameDiablo Immortal, back in June this year. It didn’t go down well thanks to the frankly ludicrous costs to collecting the game’s best gear. Rebeccaran the numbersfor us, and came out with a ballpark estimate of £46,000 to equip your character with the best gear as quickly as possible using Diablo 4’s premium currencies....

Have You Played... Counter-Strike: Global Offensive?

For the FPS purists Compared to many of the latest FPS offerings out there,Counter-Strike: Global Offensiveis a fossil. It’s such a simplistic looking game, right? A bit bland and archaic, lacking that colour and pop that the likes ofApex LegendsandValorantpossess. But to pass it off as dull and basic is to do the game a disservice, as it’s more refined than basically any of its competitors. Looking back on it now, CS:GO is an FPS that I took for granted....
