I can't wait to play Frostpunk 2 in 2024, because apparently I hate myself

It’s been confirmed that the city builder will be out sometime next year Okay, but like this trailer scares me a little. So much so that I’m already dreading the choices that this follow-up will chuck at me. The cinematic trailer (so no gameplay just yet) showed lots of fire, general chaos, and lots of dead bodies, as well as a gritty narrator justifying human sacrifice for innovation. It’s incredibly unpleasant, but I am so pumped to play it....

I wish Mortal Kombat 1 had a modern control scheme like Street Fighter 6

I ain’t memorising all that Mortal Kombat 1is surely going to delight fans offighting gamesand fans of Mortal Kombat. Having given it a whirl for around 45 minutes atSummer Game Fest, I’m convinced it’s gorgeous, gory, and guaranteed to please a demanding electronic sports audience who can actually memorise inputs and string together combos. Yet, the entirety of my time with Mortal Kombat 1 had me desperate for an equivalent toStreet Fighter 6’smodern control scheme: a simplified remap of the buttons which enables anyone to hop in and do cool moves....

InXile's new time-travelling steampunk RPG looks like a lost BioShock Infinite sequel

Check out Clockwork Revolution’s trailer and you’ll see what I mean WhenClockwork Revolution’s announcement trailer started playing in the Xbox Games Showcase today, I almost thought was a follow-up toBioShock Infinite. An opulent oversaturated city with a hanging railway, heaps of gadgets, a taunting antagonist, a protagonist with reality-altering powers, and a giant baddy with a gunarm? SurelyBioShock? Nope! It’s a new first-person steampunk RPG from InXile Entertainment, the makers of Torment: Tides Of Numenera....

Jumplight Odyssey is just the right balance of spaceship pressure cooker

This roguelike colony sim will have you hot (but not too hot) under the collar I’ve been itching to get my hands on League Of Geeks' new roguelike colony sim ever since Ifirst clapped eyeson its 70s anime-infused visuals back in November last year. The good news is that you’ll soon be able to do exactly that, as tonight’s PC Gaming Show confirmed thatJumplight Odysseywill be getting a Steam Next Fest demo on June 19th....

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new "high fantasy" RPG from the makers of Persona

With lovely menus, as always Atlus have become a Persona factory in recent years, producing not only the mainline urban fantasy RPGs but spin-offs likePersona 5 Strikersand the recently announcedPersona 5 Tactica. Thankfully they’re working on something entirely new, too. During tonight’s Xbox Games Showcase, Atlus announcedMetaphor: ReFantazio, a new “high fantasy” RPG fromPersona 5’s director and character designer. Here’s the announcement trailer: From the trailer I can glean that Metaphor: ReFantazio is a party RPG with turn-based combat and some seriously gaudy enemy designs....

Not-so-sneaky heist 'em up Payday 3 will launch this September

Shooting its way out At tonight’s Xbox showcase, there was a first proper look at upcoming heist ‘em up sequelPayday 3. To skip to the end: it looks a lot like past Paydays, inasmuch as it’s a co-op first-person shooter that’s less about clever breaking and entering and more about mowing down waves of cops. The trailer also came with a release date: September 21st. Its similarity to previous Paydays is no bad thing....

Players will get to join a rag-tag group of space explorers in Starfield

Constellation want to answer humanity’s biggest questions You’ll be meeting lots of NPCs on your jaunt around space inStarfield, but during the dedicated Starfield presentation as part ofnot-E3, we got a look at one group of rag-tag space folks in more detail - Constellation. Described in the showcase as a team that’s sort of a “mythical group” and “the last true explorers in the galaxy.” Their whole deal is that they’re trying to grapple with humanity’s biggest questions and are on big ol' space quest to find answers....

Race cars across alien planets in the follow-up to Exo One

Exo Rally Championship looks gorgeous! The gang behindExo One, a game about drinking in dramatic sci-fi vistas while flying and rolling a strange craft across alien planets, have announced a spin-off. It is not a spin-off I would have expected.Exo Rally Championshipis an off-road rally racing game where you’ll zoom across exoplanets in a six-wheeled car with manoeuvring thrusters. Soar over low-gravity worlds! Dodge through a meteor shower! Gasp at the pretty landscapes!...

Sea Of Thieves finally makes the most obvious move ever with a Monkey Island crossover

A three-part Tall Tale expansion is coming in July I’m a fan ofMonkey Island, as many of you know, and so hearing the opening bars of the Monkey Island theme during theXbox Games Showcasetonight was an instant little serotonin booster. Turns outSea Of Thievesis finally doing the most obvious pirate crossover ever with a free three-part Tall Tale expansion called The Legend Of Monkey Island. Shadow Gambit and its undead stealth pirates are hitting PC in August

X marks the spot for Mimimi’s latest on August 17th To help tide us over until then (sorry, not sorry), the release date trailer shows off some of the deviously plotted open-ended locations we’ll be visiting come August time. We see lead character Afia walking across some rather large chains of her soon to be commandeered ship, the Red Marley, as well as the goon-filled walkways of one of the archipelago’s shanty towns, and a heavily fortified (and mysteriously frozen in time) exploded lighthouse to name just a few....
