Don’t book that September holiday BioWare have said thatDragon Age: The Veilguardis due for release sometime this autumn, causing many to predict it would arrive in September. That seems unlikely now, as EA say the RPG is due to launch in their financial third quarter which begins October 1st. EA’s financial year begins April, with Q1 ending on June 30th and Q2 ending on September 30th. Its latest financial calendar lists The Veilguard has a Q3 release, putting it sometime this year, but in October or later,according to Eurogamer....

Ixpansion I’m hooked onDune Imperium, a deckbuilder and worker placement digital board game I’m only just beginning to get my head around. Here comes some news to send my head spinning again: the Rise Of Ix expansion is out now, which adds three new factions, six new leaders, a new mode and much more. The Rise Of Ix expansion is currently only available for the Steam version of the game, whereit costs £8....

But “it’s still going to be the best game out there” ‘Technological change’ obviously covers a lot of bases, and what counts as a “jump” varies by the player or at least, the hardware manufacturer trying to flog you a new graphics card. The developers have just released a nine-minute explainer video, which teems with scenes of gimp suits, winged vans, rocket-propelled pinkies, vicious card battles against small excited dogs, and a surprisingly in-depth management component. There are bits that make me think ofBatman: Arkham City, and bits that make me think ofPathologic, and bits that make me think ofYakuza- a combination fit to burst the brain....

Good for what rails you Once upon a time, my favourite place to write was on trains. Specifically, laidback intercity services with nobody else in the quiet car and certainly, none of those screeching smaller bipeds, or “children” as they are scientifically known. That idyll is now lost to me thanks to Covid: I have vulnerable family members and continue to be careful about social distancing. As such I spend most train journeys these days lurking between carriages, trolling the door sensors and scowling furiously at anybody who visits the loo....

Among the wonderful sights contained inspace-pokingadventure gameThe Great Fluctusare: beans, slug milk, alien volleyball, egg arguments, and massive frog. Additional screenshots suggest this frog later acquires wings. Like a captive Generation Game host, I am helpless but to shout out more incredible sights as they flutter past on the conveyor belt of pure flippin' videogame before me. It’s got dance parties with horrible gorilla aliens....

Let the good frames roll There’s a new version ofAMD Fluid Motion Frames(AFMF) available to try, and good news for RadeonGPUowners: it is drastically, almost comically better than the original version. Whereas AMD’s first take on driver-level frame generation – the same kind of framerate-roiding image generation trickery thatFSR 3andDLSS 3are based around – came yoked to a barrel of jittering, stuttering, and visual artefacting issues, Fluid Motion Frames 2 is as smooth and you’d like....

Even if the rest does seem a tad overambitious Edwin spotted this game calledBeta Decaythat’s not got a release date yet or anything, but looks very cool. It’s being developed by Rotoscope Studios and it’s a low-poly, 90s-inspired mix of dystopianRPG,survival, third and first-person shooter, with someroguelikebits slapped in there, as well. Whew, that’s alot. Potentially too much. But hey, I am here for something ambitious and interesting, of which it ticks both boxes....

Be on your worst behaviour In Behaviour Interactive’s post-apocalyptic multiplayerFPSMeet Your Maker, you raise grim forts of rusty blocks, pop-out manglers and robot ambushers from the desert sands. Each base harbours a cannister of genetic material and other resources, and the idea is to fiendishly arrange traps and defences to stop people taking your precious genmat while doing your best to clean out their bases.
